Live from Times Square

Live From Times Square

Newcastle’s premium open air music festival returns to Times Square for another year of epic events across two weekends.

From 27th – 29th July and 4-6th August, SSD Concerts will be taking over Times Square to bring you seven out of this world performances. With a possible 40,000 music fans able to attend across the entirety of the event, Live From Times Square is the biggest inner-city music event Newcastle has ever seen.

2016 saw the launch of Live from Times Square, a labour of love for the Davis brothers of SSD Concerts who wanted to bring open air live music back to Newcastle. Previously revellers had the opportunity to attend Evolution Festival, however since its discontinuation there has been no large scale outdoor music event to rival it’s popularity. Enter Time Square to change the face of music in Newcastle forever.

Exploding onto the last year scene with Ocean Colour Scene, Primal Scream, Fat Boy Slim, Catfish and the Bottlemen, and Maximo Park, 2016 surely got the Live From Times Square experience cemented in the North Easts mind.

Returning this year and promising to be bigger and better than ever, Live From Times Square will be showing casing eight amazing shows. We’re here to take an in-depth look at the summer line-up …

JAKE BUGG – 27TH JULY – LIVE FROM TIMES SQUARE

Kicking things off on Thursday 27th July will be the phenomenal singer-songwriter Jake Bugg who released his third chart-topping album On My One to much acclaim last year.  And in keeping with the success of last year’s concerts, the support acts will be as top notch as the headliner, with Bugg being backed by the up-and-coming Sundara Karma and Cabbage.

LEFTFIELD – 28TH JULY – LIVE FROM TIMES SQUARE

The following day will see the legendary electronica band Leftfield performing their ground-breaking, genre-bending, debut album Leftism, an album that still sounds as fresh today as it did upon its release in 1995, in full.

Celebrating the 22nd anniversary of their revolutionary debut, Leftism, which upon it’s release changed the face of dance music forever, being one of the first of it’s kind to bring the Club experience into the living room.

Upon it’s release in 1995, Leftism was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize and was described by Q magazine as “the first truly complete album experience to be created by house musicians and the first quintessentially British one”.

JAMES – 29TH JULY – LIVE FROM Times Square

The final night of the first stint of concerts in the heart of Newcastle could only belong to the legendary Mancunian indie band, James.

THE LIBERTINES – 3RD AUGUST – LIVE FROM TIMES SQUARE

There’ll be a few days to recover before one of the best British bands of the modern era hit town, The Libertines hitting Times Square on 3rd August.

Fronted by the inimitable Pete Doherty and brother-in-arms Carl Barat, the band have been courting controversy, fame and more to the point, releasing damn great tunes since they first released Up The Bracket in 2002, whilst 2015’s Anthems of Doomed Youth proved that this is a band with its finger still firmly on the zeitgeist.

Local heroes and last year’s Sunday night headliners Maximo Park will be back in support along with Guildford’s old school punk band, Blackwaters and The Pale White.
