Track of the week

Tall Shaves – Breanna From Orilla

Tall Shaves are giving us all of the warm and fuzzies with ‘Breanna From Orillia’. The track, is their latest recording and you can hear it on their New EP ‘Two For Tuesdays’….

‘Breanna From Orillia’ is a compact long-distance love story which reminisces the good ol’ days when myspace was the social media platform of choice. It’s a lovely track for fans of upbeat music with an occasionally folky twist. Think Of Monsters and Men, Vance Joy or Slow Club.

Tall Shaves are a duo consisting of Paige Temperley and Kieran Taylor. They are launching the ‘Two For Tuesdays’ EP on 1st February at Think Tank? Underground. If you’re going then count yourself lucky as the gig has sold out! Even if you can’t attend you can still have a listening party and stream or purchase the EP now.

Creegan – That Night

If you’re hoping to discover some freshly squeezed sounds from the North East this week then look no further. Here is a new track called ‘That Night’ from a new band called Creegan…

Creegan are a Newcastle based outfit. They may be new but can already boast having a headliner at Riverside and airplay BBC Newcastle.

Their debut single is quite the ear worm thanks to the meaty guitar riffs from Luke Gaul. Frontman Connor Pattinson gives the track further weight with his gritty vocals. The contrastingly self reflective lyrics prove that the band are a well rounded outfit also consisting of bassist Glenn Lambie and Harry Still on drums.

You’ll almost certainly be hearing more from Creegan over the course of the coming year so check out the single and keep an eye out!

Holly Rees – Stick Around

Holly Rees is a shining beacon of calmness on her new single ‘Stick Around’, which is especially useful in the face of any pre-Christmas chaos. For this reason it has bagged our track of the week…

The song is a classic singer songwriter effort done well. It features no one but Rees with her sweet vocals and her guitar.

The relaxing but slightly melancholy tone of the song evokes early Damien Rice and it’s nothing short of Blissful to listen to.

Holly is certainly one of the North East’s most promising acoustic acts. This year she has been a feature in local festivals like Hit The North and Evolution Emerging.

Her final show of 2018 takes place tonight (7th December) at Think Tank? Underground. It will be her first show with a full band, The Breakfast Club. Support comes from Picnic and Matt Dunbar.

Club Paradise – Sugar

Those with a sweet tooth won’t be able to resist ‘Sugar’ by Club Paradise, our latest track of the week…

Club Paradise first came to our attention with ‘Brother’, their emphatic debut single. ‘Sugar’ is similar to its predecessor, in that it possesses a strong sense of drama and energy.

However, it does exactly what a sophomore single should, increasing the momentum and intrigue surrounding the act, who dub themselves “The best band you’ve never heard of”.

On the new single, Club Paradise synthesise a broad range of influences. Musical features such as Daft Punk-esque vocoders and alternative rock vocals co-exist surprisingly well.

If you want to uncover more about Club Paradise come and see them play Think Tank? Underground on December 6th for the official ‘Sugar’ launch party!

NE Dons – No Problem

‘No Problem (Feat. Reali-T)’ by NE Dons is our latest track of the week. Once again the Newcastle based duo push the boundaries of grime and deliver with infectious energy…

NE Dons first introduced the song on their ‘Nang’ EP released back in September. It’s similar enough to previous single ‘Pick N Mix’ to prove that the outfit have a catchy, fully established sound for this era of their career.

However, it’s different enough to avoid falling into the trap of monotony. This is thanks to the slightly slower tempo which adds to the menacing tone and the more defined structure courtesy of collaborator Reali-T’s refrain.

Check out the track and its brand new video below…
