The London-based rapper released her debut album ‘Odd One Out’ this month and it’s a record that lives up to all it’s early promise. Covering a multitude of genres from pop to rap to punk to electronic- Girli has a voice and she’s not afraid to use it.
There’s no place for the brilliantly titled ‘Why Don’t You Fuck Off Back To LA,’ on Girli’s debut album. However it’s surely set to be a future classic with tracks like the feminist anthem ‘Hot Mess’ which sounds like a cross between The Streets and Lady Sovereign. Meanwhile ‘Deal With It’ channels pop royalty Charli XCX in its bubble gum chewing, alcopop spewing charm.
Elsewhere she ponders her life as if it was a movie on ‘Friday Night Big Screen’ (see how many films you can spot!). Future club anthem ‘Day Second Month’ will have everyone on the dancefloor building up a sweat.
Calling out fake friends on, well, ‘Fake Friends, Girli is no wallflower. Expect confrontation, killer rhymes, hip-hop beats, an in your face attitude and tunes to blow your very mind.
What’s more is it really is gonna be a Girli night all-round because there are another two up and coming female talents on the bill. Fellow Londoner Ashnikko and South Shield’s very own quirky songsmith Cortney Dixon will be opening the show so if you fancy a night seeing some of the best female pop talent around right now, Think Tank? on 23rd April is where it’s at!
