Creegan are an indie/alt rock band from Newcastle. The lads from the Toon recently took part in the Compete the North competition with their song ‘Satellites’ for a chance to win a slot on the bill for the upcoming Hit the North festival.

Creegan won the coveted spot on the lineup, and are set to open the Academy 2 stage on the day of the festival.

Hit the North 2019 takes place on Sunday 5th May at a host of venues across Newcastle City Centre with acts including Tom Grennan, Mini Mansions and Jake Bugg.

We chatted with Creegan ahead of Sunday’s performance at Hit the North to get find out how it was winning a place on the lineup. As well as their upcoming plans beyond the festival.

How was it taking part in Compete the North?

It was awesome! We had a great time refining that one song and get it as slick as possible but once it was recorded it was quite daunting seeing what we were up against (some other fab bands).

We had to work really hard to get the word spread around and the votes cast!

You’re opening the Academy 2 stage at Hit the North, how does that feel?

Academy 2 is such a good venue and we’re seeing more and more great young bands joining the list of performers there. It seems like its a great stage for up and coming acts and, with Amazing Radio being there, hopefully we can make the most of it!

What can we expect from Creegan for the rest of 2019?

We’re back in the studio soon, and we’re looking to release more songs over the next 8 months, culminating in a big show towards the end of the year!
