Fontaines D.C. are fast becoming one of the most exciting bands coming out of their hometown, Dublin.
It’s debatable whether ‘Big’, can be classed as an ode to the city but it’s certainly referenced in the lyrics. “Dublin in the rain is mine” declares frontman Grian Chatten while discordant guitars and drums clatter in the background. It’s a perfect track for fans of Idles and Heavy Lungs looking for a new band to listen to.
The video for the track is also set in the Irish capital. Grian’s eleven-year-old neighbour wanders the streets and mouths the lyrics. He carries himself with what the band describe as “the presence of a hundred frontmen”. Talking about the content of the song itself, Fontaines D.C. state “We felt that great ambition was a sickness”.
With regard to the album the song will appear on, the band define Dogrel as “a crude, traditionally Irish working-class form of verse, historically looked down upon by literary critics”. However, we reckon the music critics are going to love it.
