Feature: Fueled By Ramen’s top English acts head to Newcastle

Two acts from one of America’s biggest alternative record labels Fueled By Ramen are heading to Newcastle this year, Ipswich cult heroes Basement and Brighton melodic rockers Yonaka. We thought we’d use this as an excuse to take a closer look at the ever-evolving rock label and its marquee English acts on their way to Riverside.

Who are Fueled By Ramen?

Since it was established in 1996, Fueled By Ramen Records has been a label committed to cultivating the biggest and brightest punk-inspired rock and pop bands. Based in New York City, the iconic label is home to huge names like Paramore, Panic At The Disco, and All Time Low. Despite its pedigree for creating world-beating pop-punk, FBR boasts an incredibly diverse roster. It’s home to the emo meets trap-rap sound of Nothing, Nowhere and Japanese alt-rockers One Ok Rock. So what does FBR’s English division have in store for the Toon?

The cult appeal of Basement

Formed in Ipswich in 2009, Basement have garnered a cult following over the decade that they’ve been active. Their popularity is in part down to their dynamic sound, one that’s particularly hard to pin down. In the past they’ve been labelled grunge, emo, post-hardcore and alternative rock. Their fifth and latest album ‘Beside Myself’ has been their most straight-up rock record to date. The album earned the band some outstanding reviews, cementing Basement’s place as kings of the UK rock underground. We can’t wait to see the boys live at Riverside on the 28th August!

Yonaka’s hype is real

Brighton rockers Yonaka had one hell of a 2019! They released their debut full-length album ‘Don’t Wait ’Til Tomorrow’ and stormed festival stages across the world – including Newcastle’s own This Is Tomorrow festival. Filled with heavy riffs and melodic hooks, Yonaka’s sound is as infectious as it is hard hitting. The quartet are being tipped by the music press as the UK rock scene’s next big thing, with their formidable live shows acting as the jewel in their crown. This November will see Yonaka hit Riverside so you can see what all the hype is about!
