Though Fender’s news is a fantastic surprise, it has also been a long time coming and almost inevitable. In the last few years Fender has worked his way up to the top of the Newcastle scene and has been making waves nationwide.
Insightful songwriting paired with soulful vocals, effortlessly catchy indie tunes and a bit of elbow grease have all contributed to Sam’s success. His list singles including ‘Play God,’ ‘Start Again,’ ‘Millenial,’ and ‘Friday Fighting,’ all demonstrate the artist’s massive potential.
His first well deserved major break in 2018 came in the shape of appearing on the BBC Music Sound of list for this year.
Sam celebrated his deal by sharing a video to his official Facebook page on 6th June. The video shows Fender signing his name while a dramatic, humorous version of the Universal Studios Theme plays in the background. He captioned it in a true Geordie fashion also. It Reads:
“Just signed a record deal with Polydor #weyaye #stingandthepolice#paulgascoigne #Rafa #shearer #ididitdad #aufwiedersehenpet#holdtight #toontoon.”
Polydor is an especially eciting label for Sam choosing to team up with. Its roster currently consists of Kendrick Lamar, Billie Eilish, Thirty Seconds To Mars, Frank Turner, Michael Kiwanuka and that’s only naming a few.
Here at GNE we wish Sam every success and can’t wait to see what the future holds for the Newcastle lad!
