Preview: A Flock of Seagulls – 18/7/19 – Riverside, Newcastle

Best known for their 1982 hit ‘I Ran (So Far Away),’ A Flock of Seagulls were established as one of the definitive bands of the new wave era. They are coming to Newcastle’s Riverside on 18th July…

A Flock of Seagulls is an English New Wave band originally formed 1979 in Liverpool by brothers Mike and Ali Score under the name ‘Tontrix’. They split up in 1986 and after that Mike Score formed a new brand under the name A Flock of Seagulls.

Bill Nelson’s Cocteau Records label issued their first song, the stand-alone single’(It’s Not Me) Talking’, which reached number 78 on the UK singles chart in 1981.

The band’s debut EP ‘Modern Love Is Automatic’ followed quickly on the same label, and its lead track ‘Telecommunication’ became an underground hit in Euro-disco and new wave clubs.

It was their third single ‘I Ran (So Far Away)’ that brought them out of the clubs and into heavy rotation on MTV.

After their beginnings almost 40 years ago Mike Score has since re-formed the band with a brand new lineup. ‘The Ascension’ album was recorded in multiple studios around the world and featured the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra providing backing to their hits.

So make sure you get yourself down to Newcastle’s Riverside on 18th July to see A Flock of Seagulls put a show full of nostalgia as well as recent tunes!
