Fresh from releasing their debut album in September, Brighton 4-piece Black Honey are setting out on a 10 date UK headline tour. It will take in Newcastle’s Riverside on Friday 19th October…
The self-titled release fulfils all of the band’s early promise and more on what is a vibrant, multi-coloured record.
It’s an in-your-face set of belters. From the opener ‘I Only Hurt The Ones I Love’ through to moody closer ‘Wasting Time.’
Tracks like ‘Midnight’ are as reminiscent of the dirty pop of Girls Aloud as they are of any indie band you’d care to name, but make no mistake, this is a rock ‘n’ roll album by a rock ‘n’ roll band.
There’s plenty of monstrously dirty guitar riffs and ‘Hello Today’ goes all 90’s grunge on us. Izzy B Phillips’ schizophrenic Harley Quinn meets Shirley Manson suddenly fronting the Breeders.
On ‘Bad Friends’ she’s Lorde, discussing the politics of Saturday night. With Izzy on vocals and guitar, Chris Ostler on guitar, bassist Tommy Taylor and drummer Tom Dewhurst, the band released their first EP back in 2014 so they’ve spent a lot of time honing their craft both on stage and in the rehearsal rooms.
Following it up with the Headspin EP in 2016, they further whetted our appetites and now they’re making a triumphant return with a full record under their belts. The honey may be black but their future is bright so don’t miss out!
