Preview: Richard Ashcroft at Wasteland 2019 – 14/7/19 – Spillers Wharf, Wasteland

Richard Ashcroft regarded by many as a Britpop legend will be performing at Wasteland on the 14th July at Spillers Wharf, Newcastle…

The artist first made his name as the lead singer of the alternative rock band the Verve. He wrote many iconic songs for the band including ‘Bitter Sweet Symphony’, ‘Lucky Man’, the UK number one ‘The Drugs Don’t Work’ and more.

The band’s album ‘Urban Hymns’ was both a critical and commercial success, crowned as the 19th best selling album in UK history and allowing the group to pick up two Brit awards.

However, he became a successful solo artist in his own right, releasing three solo albums. His album ‘Alone with Everybody’ released in 2000 reached number 1 and received platinum status in the UK.

Rivetingly charismatic, menacingly serpentine and possessed of an almost shamanic intensity, Richard Ashcroft embraces and articulated the anthemic fervour of rock & roll with a power and eloquence unparalleled by any of his contemporaries.

His most recent fifth solo studio album ‘Natural Rebel’ represents the latest chapter in a hugely successful solo career for the former Verve frontman and Ivor Novello winner as it debuted at number 4 in the UK album charts.

The singer-songwriter will give an unforgettable performance at Wasteland Festival, so make sure you get your tickets now!
