Preview: The Blockheads – 18/10/18 – Riverside, Newcastle

08/10/2018

The Blockheads are coming to Riverside, Newcastle on 18th October so you’d better get your rhythm sticks at the ready…

Blockheads formed in 1977 and subsequently found fame with a stream of hit singles. This list includes ‘Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick,’ ‘Reasons To Be Cheerful, Part 3,’ and ‘Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll.’

The latter of these tracks was initially banned by the BBC but also championed by NME.

When the band first burst onto the scene, they were known as Ian Drury and the Blockheads. Drury, who fronted the band, sadly passed away in 2000 but his legacy has continued and The Blockheads are still going strong.

They are known for their often tongue-in-cheek songs and for dabbling with genres like funk, new wave and post-punk.

The band’s lineup is an ever changing feature. As it stands, the band consists of 8 members, with Derek Hussey fronting the outfit. They also have two saxophonists on the bench. Not to mention that every now and then famous comedian Phill Jupitus makes a special guest appearance!

We wonder who will be on stage at their Riverside show? The only way to find out is to get yourself a ticket.
